After courting a woman named Vera for seven years, friends Jack and Leo decide to seclude themselves in the Vermont woods near her home. When she finally decides to accept a third man called Gideon, Jack and Leo are left feeling betrayed and disillusioned. They soon find out that their decision to stay hidden was not only futile but also dangerous.
Vera's new boyfriend Gideon had been keeping tabs on them, and when he learned they were hiding, he sent his men to track them down. In an effort to protect himself, Jack and Leo had to fight back against the men who pursued them. It was a close call, but they managed to escape and hide in the woods for several days before making their way back to civilization.
Reflecting on their experience, Jack and Leo realized that their initial decision to seclude themselves was a mistake. They had been too trusting of Vera, and their lack of communication had led to their current situation. As they returned to Vera, they made it clear that they were no longer willing to be part of her life.
From then on, Jack and Leo decided to focus on their own lives and relationships. They moved away from Vermont and found new homes, where they could start fresh and build new friendships without the distractions of past relationships.
