His popularity increased when he composed several hit songs for the troupe, including "The Battle of New Orleans" and "Oh Susanna." After the troupe disbanded, Foster moved to New York City and continued to write songs for theaters and other venues. His music remained popular throughout his career, and he continued to write until his death in 1846.
