Driving home late at night during a heavy rainstorm, Glen experiences car trouble. Near where his car gets stuck, he spots a house, knocks on the door and is greeted by an oddly friendly middle-aged man, Arthur, and his younger wife, Cyndi. The strange couple pours him a drink, and then more drinks, followed by an unexpected offer that Glen can’t refuse.
Elsewhere, a young woman, Katie, is feeling emotionally weighed down by a secret romantic arrangement that feels like a textbook case of gaslighting. And at the same time, in a nondescript research facility, medical professional Julie begins questioning her role in a bizarre experiment, fearing that she’s doing more harm than good.
Meanwhile, Glen's car breaks down again, and he finds himself stranded on the side of the road. He looks around for help but is met with silence from passersby. Desperate, he starts to walk towards the house, hoping that someone will come out and help him. As he approaches the house, he sees a figure moving inside and realizes that it might be the same Arthur and Cyndi who had been welcoming him earlier.
Glen knocks on the door and is greeted by Arthur, who seems surprised to see him again. Arthur invites Glen inside and offers him food and shelter. As they sit down to eat, Arthur tells Glen about his wife, Cyndi, who has been struggling with depression for years. Arthur explains that he has been trying to help her but has been unsuccessful.
Glen listens intently and tries to offer his own advice and support. Arthur thanks him for his kindness and promises to keep him informed if there is anything else he can do to help. As Glen leaves the house, he feels relieved to have been able to provide some comfort to the lonely Arthur and Cyndi.
Meanwhile, Katie continues to feel trapped by her secret romantic arrangement. She has been keeping her relationship a secret from her friends and family, afraid that they will judge her or try to interfere in her life. She also struggles with feelings of guilt and shame, wondering if she is being selfish or uncaring for not sharing her feelings with others.
Despite her efforts to hide her relationship, Katie still feels isolated and alone. She spends most of her time alone in her room, scrolling through social media and comparing herself to others. She becomes increasingly paranoid about her secrets and fears that someone will discover them.
One day, Katie meets up with a group of friends at a cafe and begins discussing her secret relationship with a coworker. To her surprise, her friends are supportive and understanding, offering to talk about their own relationships and share their own struggles. Katie realizes that she is not alone in her feelings of isolation and decides to start reaching out to others for support.
As Katie begins to open up to her friends, she feels a sense of relief and validation. She no longer feels ashamed or guilty for having a secret relationship, and she is able to enjoy the company of her friends without worrying about what they might think.
In the end, both Glen and Katie learn that seeking help and support is essential for overcoming their emotional struggles. By sharing their experiences with others, they are able to gain a new perspective on their situations and find hope and healing in their journey towards recovery.
