Marci Maven is accused of negligent homicide after her neighbor claims that her dog killed his wife. However, Marci denies the claim and claims that her dog died a few days ago. In response, she turns to Monk, a man she's been obsessed with for some time, for help. When Monk refuses to see her, she purchases him at a bachelor auction.
When Monk learns about the incident, he tells Marci what happened and when he inspects the scene, he discovers several anomalies. He then confronts Marci, who initially denies any involvement in the incident. However, as they continue to discuss it, Monk becomes increasingly convinced that there was indeed foul play involved.
As the investigation continues, more details emerge that point to Marci as the likely culprit. The anomalies Monk noticed include the way the dog was found and the fact that the dog's collar had been removed. Additionally, there were strange markings on the body of the victim, which Monk believes could be evidence of foul play.
Despite the mounting evidence against Marci, she remains defiant and insists that her dog was not responsible for the death. As the case drags on, tensions rise between them, and their relationship becomes strained. Ultimately, though, the truth comes out and Marci is convicted of negligent homicide.
