Travis, a former sniper in World War I, now a policeman patrolling the vast empty spaces of northern Australia, is tasked with hunting down an Indigenous tribe. However, during the operation, he loses control and ends up massacring the tribe.
Upon returning to his unit, Travis is forced to confront the truth about what happened. He refuses to accept that he was responsible for the massacre, but his superiors insist that he must cover it up by burying the truth. Outraged, Travis leaves the unit in disgust and returns to his homeland in search of answers.
Years later, Travis is back in Australia, this time as a police officer. He is assigned to track down Baywara, an Aboriginal warrior who has been attacking new settlers. As he follows Baywara, he discovers that the warrior is also a massacre survivor.
Travis recruits Gutjuk, the only known massacre survivor, as his Tracker. Together, they uncover the truth about the past and learn that Baywara's attacks were not random but were part of a larger plan to destroy the new settlers.
As Travis becomes more involved in the fight against Baywara, he realizes that he is now caught up in a web of lies and deceit. The truth is finally revealed to him, and he is forced to confront the consequences of his actions.
