Paul Château Têtard is a French film directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The movie revolves around Paul, a young man in his 20s, who falls in love with a young woman named Marie, who works as a counter clerk in the subway system.
As Paul's mother, Madame Château, becomes aware of their relationship and suspects that Marie might be unfaithful, she decides to take action. She hires a private detective, Monsieur Giraud, to tail Marie and gather evidence of her infidelity.
Monsieur Giraud sets up surveillance on Marie's apartment and begins to follow her every move. He discovers that she has been seeing another man, a wealthy businessman named Charles. This information leads to a series of events where Marie and Charles begin an affair, which ultimately leads to her breaking off her engagement to Paul.
Madame Château, now convinced that her son is being betrayed by his lover, takes matters into her own hands. She arranges for Monsieur Giraud to confront Marie and Charles at their meeting place, but instead, he finds out that the two are engaged to be married.
Infuriated by this turn of events, Madame Château decides to stage a fake wedding ceremony in front of everyone, including Monsieur Giraud, so that everyone will know the truth about Marie and Charles. However, when the ceremony is revealed to be a hoax, Madame Château is humiliated and embarrassed.
In the end, Paul learns the truth about his mother's actions and forgives her. The movie ends with Paul and Marie reconciling and moving forward together, while Madame Château grapples with the consequences of her actions.
