Joe Bell is a penny-pinching hermit who has been saving for the day when his life will begin. One day, he is offered a chest filled with treasure by an enigmatic old man known as "The Clockmaker." After handing the chest over to Joe, The Clockmaker accidentally locks it. Joe is now faced with a series of wacky and diverse adventures in order to find the key. Each adventure is unique and includes 15 genres such as action-adventure, comedy, Western, romance, science fiction, film noir, musical, and more. In the process of these adventures, Joe learns to live life instead of saving it, making new friends along the way. He eventually finds the key on the necklace of a beautiful young woman named Abbey. At first sight, Joe falls for her and desires her for himself. However, his love for her clashes with his desire to recover the treasure for his future self. After facing yet another series of dangerous adventures to save Abbey's life and retrieve the key, Joe must choose between the two.
