Ireland 1981. Nine-year-old Cáit, a sensitive and curious child who lives in the countryside, finds herself in a difficult situation. She is sent to an older, childless couple during the holidays, where she experiences deep affection for the first time ever. Cáit's life is marked by the struggles of poverty and isolation. She spends most of her days wandering through the countryside, exploring the beauty that surrounds her. Her family, consisting mainly of her mother and grandmother, is often overwhelmed and emotionally cold. They are not able to provide much support or comfort to their daughter. One day, Cáit's mother decides to take her away from the country to a new home. Cáit is initially hesitant, but eventually agrees to go. When she arrives at the new home, she is greeted by an older couple who welcome her warmly. The couple has no children of their own and are happy to have a young girl as a resident. Cáit quickly adapts to her new surroundings and begins to explore the city with her hosts. However, she soon realizes that the couple is not what they seem. They seem friendly and welcoming, but there is something off about them. Cáit begins to notice small details that seem out of place, such as the way they dress or their behavior towards each other.
