A group of Czech artists decide to ignore the reality of Nazi occupation in this brooding experimental war drama. When a beautiful female refugee arrives in town seeking help, she awakens the sexual desires of all men, but only a sympathetic sculptor offers her assistance. When she is allegedly killed, the artist sends death masks of the victim to the other artists who refused to aid the woman. They later conclude that the woman was not mortal.
