简介：Ben Harper, a husband and father to three children, has spent his working life as a dentist. Just as well as most of his life seems like pulling teeth, his wife Susan is usually busy showing foreign tourists around London, a place she knows much better than her own kitchen. Ben and Susan have been married happily enough to have three children. However, Ben has the feeling that most of the time his children seem to speak a different language. Nick (20) has persuaded his parents he would benefit from a gap year to see something of the world. To date, he has hardly seen anything beyond the confines of the sofa. Janey (17) is into boys, fashion labels (expensive ones) and getting her own way. Michael (14) is the brightest of the trio. He is seriously into computers and, not so seriously (yet) into girls. Ben's wife, Susan, is often busy with foreign tourists, leaving little time for her family. She tries to balance work and family, but sometimes feels overwhelmed. Despite their differences, Ben and Susan try to make time for their children, who are growing up fast. Ben and Susan's marriage is strained due to their busy lives and the lack of quality time together. They both feel guilty about neglecting their children, especially since Nick is only 16 and still in school. Susan wants to spend more time with her children, while Ben hopes they will grow up quickly and be less demanding. As Nick continues to grow older, he becomes more independent and starts questioning the values taught by his parents. He finds himself drawn to new interests and experiences, leading him away from the traditional paths his parents have set for him. Janey is becoming increasingly self-centered and uninterested in her studies. She spends more time with friends and pursues her passion for fashion, which leads to arguments with her parents over her choices. Michael, on the other hand, is focused on his studies and computer programming. While he enjoys his hobbies, he struggles with fitting in with his peers and feels left out by his parents' priorities. Despite their differences, Ben and Susan try to find common ground and support each other. They understand that their children need guidance and direction, even if it means making sacrifices for their sake.
